Final Response

My final piece for art was a painting of a landscape near my house at home. I did this because my artist that I focused on this semester was Pablo Picasso, and much like some of his works he worked with landscapes. His one piece called summer landscape was what I based mine off of in a way it is similar with the mountains and the rolling hills in the background. Mine is a picture I took over the summer on a cliff looking over the Delaware river. This picture is very meaningful to me it is a place where my friends and I go all the time to just hangout and take a hike up the mountain side. It is a beautiful view and there are times when Bald Eagles would fly around right in front of our eyes. When you're up there looking down on the river and seeing nature from such an amazing point of view is makes you feel very blessed and free. It is very comforting being there at a place where I grew up and not being surrounded by big city building and sounds of cars driving past all day.

I believe that this semester was really fun and enjoyable in art class. Most of the projects that we did were not as difficult as I thought they were going to be coming into this class. There are a few things I will take from this class moving forward first is going to be photoshop and then the rule of thirds which is a very important idea for presenting for other classes in the future. One aspect that I feel could have been better was just the timing of getting work in I feel some of the projects took a lot of time to complete outside of the classroom.

Post Modernism

In my project I picked the quote " The secret of theory is that truth does not exist" by Jean Baudrillard. For my project I painted the entire background page blue, to signify a night sky. I started by making a collage on photoshop by finding images of a brain, a question mark, the word "secret" as well as the word "theory", and lastly a picture of a globe. Primarily, I placed these images against a background of a pond with a dock and the moon lighting up the water. After that I added photos of question marks brain waves and lightbulbs to represent theory and thinking. After combining all the images together, I then cut the each image out of my collage and placed them on the page sort of random but also planned. After placing them on I glued them and thought about what to do next. I noticed that the image of a night sky was missing something, missing that starry night. So I took the black ink, placed it on a brush and splatted it gently over all the blue to make it look like a sky full of stars.

I used this quote to portray the meaning that even with factual evidence, no one knows for sure if this is the truth or just one's perspective on something. It is evidence that there are so many theories that come with one idea, theories that individuals change around in time as well as making up their own to  create a new mindset. With the question mark placed the biggest in the middle, it brings your eye sight right to it, to identify that all truth is in question and nothing really is understood to be accurate. Even though one would think the brain would contain all information, I made it equal to the question mark because I wanted to portray that even with the mental capacity to think up these theories, they are still driven through doubts and one's own perspective. The starry night is to signify the thoughts of imagination, how when one looks up at a beautiful night they start to bring together ideas to create a "reality". Secrets are whats hidden in one's truth, ideas that aren't verbally explained but are thought about like the imagination through the starry night. One might believe that their secret is wrong, when in a reality it could possibly be holding the truth.

The Shape of Time

In this piece it talks about different authors such as Luini and Romano. It also talks about Leonardo and Raphael, what its main point is that both of these artists are very good at what they do but they can not be compared because they are both opposites and so different in the art that they produce. Luini and Romano were great artists and since they were around at the same time as Leonardo and Raphael. a lot of there art was not praised as much as it should have been and not as good due to the more popular artist but they were still great artist. This proves that normal people that are not all high and mighty can make something out of nothing and to keep your head up and keep working. No matter how bad you think your art may be there is always the end goal that it will be the best one day.

Data Visualization

An important part of the data visualization is that all of it has to do with you. No one else just yourself and your own views and believes on things. Being and athlete and having to look at stats and plays and all the other parts of basketball it reminds me about this and it all makes sense. All the data that is view for sports is just like the data for anything else and sometimes as other the data is not always correct and is not supported. Artists that view things and elements like the tiger in the weeds, is it a tiger coming to eat you or is it just the wind moving the branches? This is a natural instinct that many have and can see the different if it is wind or if it actually is a tiger on its way to eat you.

Whitescapes

Comparing a top to a water bottle to a piece paper towel. And also the white deck top.

The lid to the water bottle is a solid white color which changes paper towel to a light grey/blue color.

Newspaper Ad Response

The Ad that I originally chose was an Ad for the movie Supergirl. I started off by cutting out the whole women with he cape and everything. I chose this Ad because I thought it would be interesting and funny. I put the whole body of super girl in the center of the page to show that it was the main focus on the piece. I then cut out the face of super girl and put other faces that I found in the magazines all around. I did this to change the figure to show that it could be anyone and not just a single person. I found a page that had one persons face on in multiple times and put that randomly one the page. This made the page look kind of random but there is a main focus which is the super women cape and costume.

Ways of Seeing:

When I was watching the video it started by talking about how how the camera can move placing across the world. It talks about how they can take a place that is not physically there and move it by moving the picture and still experience the same effects. and it also talks about how we can see more detail with the picture, more in-depth into the seen. It shows us a video of a horse running and looking at that and experiencing that is like no other. There is no way other then a camera to get that angle, the camera helps us see things not possible by the human eye.
What I also found interesting was when he was moving the camera across the old paintings it made the paintings seem more clear and u can see the bigger picture a lot better by seeing the little details better. When he is going through the paintings he has to be very specific with what images he shows first to tell the story. But if you were there looking at the piece you would be looking at everything simultaneously which i found very interesting. Because looking at at something in pieces is very helpful.

Last week our class took a trip to the Baltimore Museum or Art and were told to pick three pieces from the museum that we liked best. The ones I liked the best were one, Pablo Picasos still life oil on canvas. Also the third picture is Camille Pissarros art work named, Strollers on a Country Road, La Varenne-Saint-Hilaire. This is also another oil on canvas piece that caught my eye. It caught my eye most because of the landscape and how is seems like a very old sort of farm lands. The second picture was my favorite piece out of the three. This one is my favorite because it is also has a landscape feel to it and when I was looking at it, I thought about architecture and a sky view of a piece of property. It almost looks like there is buildings and trees and other types of structures to make up the piece and it made me think about my past with doing floor plans and properties when I was creating a house on the computer for my class in high school.

The Whole Ball Of Wax:

This article makes it very clear that everyone gets a different vibe per say from art. One person can look at an art piece and see something completely different then another. Every person portrays the art different because of the way they grew up and the life choices that they have made. I feel if you look into a painting a really think about it, it will almost always remind you of something that you have experienced in the past. also there is always new art being created and it is always easy to find something that relates to yourself. In The Whole Ball Of Wax he talks about how art is like religion and science. He says that are is not about how you see it and understand it but more about the experience you have with the art. He also states that art gives energy to people. A hard part for me to understand was the part at the end when he was relating art to a cat.

Review: "Visibility"

I really enjoyed reading the piece by Italo Calvino "visibility", it really helped me understand some aspects of art. What jumped out the most was the fact that there were two parts to it, one is that people view art and translate it to writing and readings. The other is translated the opposite from text to imagery. this was really confusing to me at first but the more I thought about it the clearer it became. I believe that every person uses these methods in their lives, every day when we wake up in the morning we visualize what is going to happen that day or what has happened the day before. Even so much as to driving around and seeing road signs which is text we translate that to a visual. It is very clear to me, because of basketball and plays that go one during a basketball game I visualize these things. When we are in practice of on the drawing board for plays we do the same exact thing.
